Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd have recently invested in a self sufficient wet-blast system and the necessary staff training to provide our clients with an increased level of service. Asbestos debris is often left from poor cleans in the past and Tool-Up are regularly appointed to rectify this. The wet-blast system allows all surfaces to be thoroughly cleaned and passed by the analyst as asbestos free. The use of the wet blast system prevents the need for any caveats in the clearance paperwork and marks the end of ‘as far as is as reasonably practicable’.

The wet-blast system has many other uses such as for the cleaning of structural steelwork, vehicle stripping, road marking removal, grafitti removal, timber and furniture restoration….. Although these services are not our core business, we will happily discuss any project that we may be able to assist with.

Due to increased workload we have a permanent position for an experienced Asbestos Surveyor to cover the Aberdeen area. Applicants must have experience of working for a UKAS accredited Inspection Body and have several years experience of conducting surveys in a wide range of buildings.

Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions

Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd have been appointed to remove over 2,600m2 of AIB from the Paint & Blast Shop at the former Nigg Oil Yard. Global Energy who bought the former yard in October 2012 are turning the yard into a modern, multi-user facility serving a range of energy sectors, including oil and gas and renewables.

The work involves the erection of two enclosures 75m long and 16m high to facilitate the removal of the asbestos insulating board wall linings. Following completion of these works, Tool-Up personnel will work alongside G F Job Ltd to remove the external asbestos cement cladding prior to the demolition of the building.

Tool-Up have already undertaken refurbishement & demolition surveys of the buildings that have been demolished and also removed any notifiable materials which were identified. The appointment to undertake the works at the Paint & Blast Shop represents a six figure contract award for Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd.

The works commence on the 11th of June and are anticipated to be complete in September.

Due to recent contract awards, Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd currently have immediate vacancies for experienced removal Operatives and Supervisors. Applicants must have current refresher training certificate – which will be checked for authenticity.

We also require two trainee asbestos removal operatives. These positions require a full driving licence which includes C1 – to drive up to 7.5 tonne – and B & BE – for towing trailers.

Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions removal staff have successfully erected our largest free-standing enclosure to date. Located within the Michelin Tyre Factory in Dundee, the enclosure is 8750m3 and had to be erected around existing plant and machinery. The enclosure used a whole pallet of polythene and was erected in under 5 days using powered access equipment – due to the enclosure being 10m high.

After several months of planning and implementation, our new computer system is now live and has been rolled out to our Surveyors, Admin and Accounts staff….. The Removal staff will be next! The system does everything from tracking enquiries, diaries and on-site data collection to risk assessments, invoicing and Sage integration. The system was a £26k investment by Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions and is expected to improve our service to customers, improve efficiency, assist in maintaining regulatory requirements and reduce staff workload.

Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd have invested £26k in an electronic Asbestos Management System. This system comes in two parts, one in the office and the other out on site. The office part monitors all enquiries, quotes, instructions, diaries and invoicing. The site part is loaded onto tablet pc’s and used by the survey and removal staff while undertaking jobs.

In addition, the system provides an online ‘portal’ which allows clients (and their contractors) to access their survey reports.

Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd has grown rapidly in the 6 years since inception and the management system will facilitate further growth and ensure that all our clients and staff have the right information, in the right place, at the right time.

The current HSE consultation for extending cost recovery identifies the estimated average cost of enforcement as follows:

HSE inspection which results in a letter £750
HSE inspection which results in an Improvement or Prohibition notice £1500
HSE investigation ranging from £750 to tens of thousands of pounds.

These estimates are based on HSE staff time at £133 per hour.

On 7th October 2011 Tool-Up Asbestos Solutions Ltd were awarded the ARCA (Asbestos Removal Contractors Association) Gold Award for Training. This is in recognition of our staff achieving an average scoring of over 90% (criteria for the award is 80%) across all courses undertaken. The criteria for the award also requires a minimum of 8 staff to undertake ARCA training to ensure it is a good representation of the standard within the company.
